Great Barrier Reef
Australia's Great Barrier Reef is located approximately
50 kilometres from the Whitsunday islands. It
is collectively formed by more than 2000 individual
reefs ranging in size from 1 hectare to more than
10,000 square hectares and is the largest living
structure on earth.
Visiting Australia's Great Barrier Reef is one
of the world's most exciting experiences and is
a Mecca for scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming
in the clear, warm tropical waters. This fragile
eco system boasts more than 1500 species of fish,
360 types of hard coral plus over 1/3 of the world's
soft coral. It is also home to many endangered
species including dolphins, dugongs, turtles,
whales and seabirds.
The 74 Whitsunday Islands offer their own fringing
coral reefs, featuring many of the above mentioned
exotic species. Hundreds of these fringing reefs
can be easily explored at leisure from your own
bareboat charter vessel, offering similar experiences
to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. However whilst
