Whitsunday Rent a Yacht gifted a 5-night charter on Toy Buoy 44 Leopard catamaran to be auctioned for an extremely worthy cause, Richie’s Rainbow Foundation.
Richie’s Rainbow Foundation was established in honour of the fighting spirit and bravery of Richie Walsh, a 9-year-old boy who sadly lost his fight with sarcoma cancer in 2021.
Through Richie’s Rainbow Foundation, the Walsh family aim to raise funds for vital research into treatments and therapies that are kinder and more effective for children diagnosed with sarcoma. By doing this, the Walsh family hopes that one day all children diagnosed with a sarcoma can be cured.
When Whitsunday Rent a Yacht was approached by long-term customer Margaret Balfour, a board member of Richie’s Rainbow, “we just knew we had to be involved,” said James, head of customer relations. “It’s hard to imagine a more worthy cause, and it’s an honour to be able to help”.
Whitsunday Rent a Yacht donated a 5-night charter on Toy Buoy, a Leopard 44 catamaran to be auctioned online as the major prize for the Gala dinner.
Bids leading up to the Gala were heated, with the closing donation coming in at $10,200.
Karl Walsh, Richie’s Dad shared “It truly was an amazing bid & a fantastic night. We are so grateful for the prize”.
The gala dinner ended up raising $46,000 for the foundation.
The Whitsunday Rent a Yacht team hopes that donating a charter will not only assist the foundation financially but also help spread awareness about a worthy cause.
